East Coast Guide
1st edition, Lonely Planet
March 2003
Designed for people seeking serious relaxation, Sanctuary Retreat is a slice of heaven. It's a remote place set in dense rainforest and offers simple huts with only fine mesh between you and the rainforest, plus upmarket ensuite cabins with private glass- walled showers at tree top level. Theres also a stylish communal area with hammocks, games, a bar and fine food. This is a real forest, so there's loads of wildlife, including cassowaries...........

The Rough Guide to Australia
5th edition October 2001
"rainforest retreat par excellence..." "Wake up surrounded by rainforest in the stilt cabins of this outstanding eco-friendly retreat." "There's abundant wildlife - including cassowaries and the endangered striped possum - and a 700m walking track down to a private beach"

"..the bewitching Sanctuary Retreat.." "..overlooks a spectacular wedge of coral sea through the forest canopy. A jungle track (10 minutes down, 15 up) connects the retreat via a gurgling stream to the car park as well as the beautiful Brooks Beach, a sheltered cove known only (oops, until now) to the odd local nudist.

Fringing coral reefs are just a short snorkel away. If all this sounds way too idyllic to a city cynic, it gets worse. Even the retreats prices ... aim to soothe. As well, the menu's interesting (try the nasi goreng with barramundi) and the coffee's fine..."
